FCDC began in the year 1952 and is registered under Probation and Child Care Department of Sri Lanka. Good Shepherd Convent established this home to cater orphan children those who had been neglected by the society. Good Shepherd Convent manages the FCDC in consultation with the Department of Child and Probation Care. MMF constructed a new home with all modern facilities for the children resident in FCDC. Accommodation were provided for 35 vulnerable children in 2018. Support has been provided for their basic needs and in their education in order to provide them a better future.
FCDC model focuses on a child friendly approach with a holistic development of these orphan and destitute children including the enhancement of their formal education. Welfare facilities such as healthcare, psychological support, accommodation, food & clothing are provided for all the children. Project was successfully implemented by Good Shepherd Sisters in year 2018. Thus, MMF is planning to continue this project and assist these children in year 2019 and beyond. MMF refurbished the building in year 2017 incurring a substantial cost. Currently, both MMF and SEE HOUSE provide financial support to FCDC for all its operations and maintenance.
